Brooke Christa Shields (born May 31 1965) is an American model and actress. She began her career as a child model and gained critical acclaim when she was 12 years old for her role as the lead in Louis Malle's film Pretty Baby (1978). She continued modeling into her teens, and appeared in a variety of films in the 1980s for instance, The Blue Lagoon (1980) as well as Franco Zeffirelli's Endless Love (1981).In 1983, Shields suspended her career as a model to attend Princeton University, where she earned a bachelor's degree in Romance Languages. Shields began acting again in the early 1990s, and appeared in minor parts in films. She also starred in the NBC sitcoms Suddenly Susan (1996-2000), where she earned two Golden Globe nominations, and Lipstick Jungle (2008-2009). Shields returned to NBC in 2017 in a recurring role as a Law & Order: Special Victims character from the 19th season of the show. She is the daughter of Teri Shields, model and actress, and Frank Shields, a businessman (1941-2003). According to the research of William Addams Reitwiesner, Shields is related to numerous noble families in Italy and particularly Genoa as well as Rome. These are namely (in chronological order of descent from 1355 to 1965) the Gattilusi-Palaiologos-Savoy, Grimaldi, Imperiali, Carafa, Doria, Doria-Pamphili-Landi, Chigi-Albani, and Torlonia dynasties. Her paternal grandmother was Italian noblewoman Marina Torlonia di Civitella-Cesi who was the daughter of an Italian prince and an American socialite. Her great-uncle, Alessandro Torlonia, an Italian nobleman was husband to Infanta Beatriz in Spain. Teri was paid the sum of money by Frank's family to end the pregnancy.
